Louis “Lumber Lou” Chicquette Memorial Scholarship

Chicquette_ Lou photo

The Louis Larkin Chicquette Memorial Scholarship honors the remarkable career and lifelong dedication of Louis Larkin Chicquette to the lumber industry. Born on March 20, 1924, Lou founded the Esdaile Box and Lumber Company in 1945, a business that included a sawmill and small factory. His deep knowledge, integrity, and gregarious nature made him a respected figure in the lumber industry for 79 years.

Lou's passion for his work was unwavering. Even after selling his business to Webster Lumber Company, where he served as Vice President of Sales, he continued to contribute to the industry. He worked with Industrial Hardwood Products, later known as Rockland Flooring, and remained a contract employee with Quality One Woodwork until his passing on August 7, 2024. Lou was also a founding member of the Lake States Lumber Association, further exemplifying his commitment to the industry.

The scholarship aims to support students who share Lou's enthusiasm and commitment to the forest products industry, encouraging them to pursue their careers with the same fervor and dedication that Lou demonstrated throughout his life. The scholarship may be awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in a four-year institution or a second-year student enrolled in a two-year institution. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited Forestry/Wood Products program for the full school year, not graduating mid – term.
